Considering the growing debate on the impacts of the use of body cameras in police work, and based on the concrete experiences carried out by the Military Police of S\u00e3o Paulo (PMSP), Santa Catarina (PMSC) and Rond\u00f4nia (PMRO), the School of Multidimensional Security (ESEM) of the Institute of International Relations (IRI) at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo (USP), with support from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, will promote the 1st course of the Training Program in Digital Media and Technology in Police Work, the Course on the Use of Body Cameras in Police Work.<\/p>
Although the use of body cameras is not something new in police work, since countries like Canada, the United States of America (USA), and the United Kingdom have already employed this technology for a few years, in Brazil this theme has been gaining prominence more recently. Today, it is on the agenda in the country and there are
several projects at the state level to implement this use. In order to contribute to the national debate on this topic, ESEM has developed a course that seeks to inform and broaden the debate on the lessons learned and challenges of using body cameras in police work in Brazil.<\/p>
Course on the Use of Body Cameras in Police Work aims to present how body cameras are being introduced in police work in Brazil. Based on reports from professionals who were involved in the beginning of this process, as well as scientific research, students will be able to identify the lessons learned and challenges of incorporating this technology into the daily work of police officers. The presentation of theoretical concepts based on concrete cases will allow students to evaluate the impacts of the use of body cameras on police work.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The Course will take place over 8 weeks with 15 total hours of activities between April 27, 2023 and June 14, 2023, considering the viewing of video lessons for each module, the completion of readings from the Course Workbook, and the answers to the evaluative questionnaires for each class.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
METHODOLOGY<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t
The methodology used in the course will be Problem-Based Learning (PBA), or\u00a0Problem-Based Learning (PBL),<\/i>\u00a0which presents and discusses theoretical concepts based on cases and concrete problems faced by students in real life. The objective of this methodology is to mobilize students to propose solutions to the problem, which increases their engagement and absorption of the content. This methodology also makes it easier for students to use the knowledge gained in their professional practice.\u00a0<\/p>
To this end, the classes will be conducted based on empirical cases reported by Public Security professionals on the lessons learned, challenges, and impacts of the use of body cameras in police work in Brazil.\u00a0<\/p>
Individual lessons will be formatted according to the learning model\u00a0micro-learning<\/i>which consists of short videos, between 5 and 10 minutes, interspersed with content fixation questions. The videos and exercises create a knowledge trail that enables students to use the concepts right after they have been studied, which promotes dynamic learning.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tTEACHING METHODS <\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t
The teaching of the content will be divided into three categories, namely:\u00a0<\/p>

- Recorded lessons with experts on the use of body cameras by police forces from both an academic and an operational point of view.<\/li><\/ul>

- Fixation exercises will be offered between classes so that students can work on the concepts that have been presented in a dynamic and immediate way.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>
